CALL FOR PAPERS
“Things Fall Apart”, since 1958, has clearly grown beyond the author, thus becoming one of the world’s greatest phenomena in the liberal arts and social sciences. At 50, and as part of the grand activities to celebrate Chinua Achebe and this literary masterpiece, this conference intends to interrogate the novel from a multi-disciplinary point of view, thereby calling attention to issues raised then and their relevance to the present and future realities.
Suggested topics include the following:
- Historical perspectives on Things Fall Apart
- Language dimensions of Things Fall Apart
- Orality and Things Fall Apart
- Philosophical Implications of the novel
- Gender Issues in African literature
- African traditional religion and Christianity in the throes of controversy
- Heroism and fatalism in Things Fall Apart
- Psychoanalytic dimensions
- Criticism and the literary enterprise.
