RUN MATRICULATES 586 STUDENTS

Five hundred and eighty six students took the matriculation oath and signed the pledge at the 4th matriculation ceremonyof  the Redeemer’s University, held on Thursday 27 November, 2008, at the University Auditorium. The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Oyewale Tomori said at the ceremony, that the matriculation finally completed the registration exercise of the students which began in September 2008. According to him, the students can now officially and legitimately call themselves students of the Redeemer’s University. He described the 2008/2009 matriculation set as the “brand plucked out of fire of our discredit, being prepared for the transformation of Nigeria”.He said that they would remain the students of the University for the next four years, provided they maintained a high academic standard and commendable character.

The Vice-Chancellor said that there was a time in Nigeria when honesty was a way of life, when there was decency, integrity, truthfulness, etc. He however noted that today the story is different as we now live in a country we call ‘Naija’ a description for corruption, dishonesty and an absence of dignity.   He told the matriculating students that the purpose of coming to the Redeemer’s University was more than getting degree. As he put it, “better than your certificate is a far greater purpose, a loftier target, a bigger task, a divinely appointed mission, a more glorious calling and a reserved ending in the heavenly mansion with the Lord Jesus Christ”. He said that in RUN, “your degree is secondary to the pedigree of distinction, quality merit and excellence in character”
