NO SHORT-CUT IN RUN ADMISSION PROCESS – PROFESSOR TOMORI

The Vice-Chancellor of the Redeemer’s University (RUN), Prof. Oyewale Tomori has said that only those candidates who met the cut-off marks in the university post- JAMB test would be admitted to the university. He made these declaration on Saturday June 13, 2009 at the university auditorium while addressing parents of the candidates seeking admission to RUN at a reception organised for the parents while their wards were writing the Post-JAMB test. He disclosed that admission to RUN is purely on merit as there is no special treatment for any candidate. He told his audience that most of the problems among the youths today were caused by parents. He noted that most parents have abdicated their authority at home to their children. As he put it, “ in most homes, children now direct the affairs of the home because of over-pampering on the part of parents”. He further disclosed that many parents have became strangers to their children in their quest for wealth.

He told the parents that at RUN, we take the issue of discipline very seriously and that any student who ran fowl of any of the rules and regulations of the university would be shown the way out of the university. He noted that Nigeria could only reclaim her lost glory through proper discipline. He called on the parents to make up their minds whether they want their wards in RUN or not.

Prof. Tomori disclosed that it takes only one individual to effect change in any society. As he put it, “it is not the multitude but an individual that is needed to bring about the desire change in any society”. He further disclosed that the aim of RUN is to produce graduates that would effect changes in their various walks of lives. He said we should not think that only the President, the Vice-President, Governors, Ministers, and lawmakers are leaders but all of us are leaders in whatever capacity we found ourselves. He noted that if every individuals performed his or her role well, Nigeria would be a better place to live. He told the parents that more colleges would be established when the university move to her permanent site in the next two or three years.

On the issue of security, Prof. Tomori told the parents that only the security from God is the best security. He however said that the university is doing everything humanly possible to safeguard lives and properties in the university campus within the limit of the resources available to RUN.
