PROFESSOR TAMUNO INSTALLED AS AS RUN  FIRST CHANCELLOR

The installation of Professor Tamuno, as the first Chancellor of the Redeemer’s University (RUN), took place during the  First RUN Convocation held on Saturday October 3, 2009 at the RCCG Youth Centre. In his acceptance speech, the new Chancellor, Professor Tekena Tamuno noted that with continuous education, the quality of one’s knowledge tends to improve. According to him, “age, constitutes no discernible disbarment in the learning process as Cato, the Elder, amply demonstrated centuries back in ancient Rome, when he began the study of Greek at the age of 80 years”. He said that he had benefited from Cato’s famous example in the School of Continuous Education. He therefore urged every men and women of learning in Nigeria to cultivate the spirit of Cato as long as their sun shines.

Professor Tamuno thanked God for much enablement in the past but said he still have more to learn and unlearn in the wider University of life for necessary application wherever his services are needed. He said that it was a welcome honour for him to serve as Chancellor of the Redeemer’s University. He noted that “RUN, truly is unique in its approaches to current and recurrent problems in University management. As he put it, “it is unique in funding through timely anticipation by its owners of the needs of the university, they genuinely asked for and put in place after meeting the guidelines of the NUC”.

On discipline, Professor Tamuno disclosed that the University’s character-molding scheme in place was fully discussed with and approved by the parents and guardians of the students and that it is implemented without fear or favour. He further disclosed that RUN relationship with sister Universities in the extended family of Nigerian Universities was based on solid grounds. In his words, “we are not and shall not be in competition with any University at home or abroad.  Our is a complementary role: to provide our best quota to the quantum and quality of knowledge, in the world of learning, with the best possible tools we find available and sufficient for their purpose”.
